Elections Not Postponed INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked reports that the body was planning to postpone Saturday’s elections. Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold in few hours. National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity at INEC, Mr. Festus Okoye, told DAILY POST Friday night that Nigerians should ignore the rumours. His words: “If stories are flying about, allow the stories to fly. What they are reporting is not true.” Asked to respond to information that INEC commissioners were in a meeting, Okoye said: “Yes we are in a meeting but we have not taken such decision. “This is election period and as commissioners, we meet every time”. Reports reaching Daily Independent indicate that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may postpone the 2019 general elections scheduled to begin tomorrow till Tuesday for logistics reasons. A credible source in INEC said the development may be due to the fact that sensitive materials needed for the election are yet to be distributed in some states of the federation. He also said the Commission is trying to put adequate security measures in place. INEC Chairman, Professor Manhood Yakubu and other senior officials of the commission as well as other relevant agencies crucial to the conduct of the election are currently in an emergency. $16bn Power Sector Fraud: Obasanjo Replies Buhari

FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo is of the view that those who believed his administration wasted $16 billion on power project implementation with nothing to show for it lacked proper understanding. In a reply to queries on what happened to the $16 billion power sector funds under his administration, the former president said it was wrong for anybody to reply on what he called “unsubstantiated allegations against him by the then leadership of House of Representatives over the project”.
